Annie Leibovitz at Work: Book Review

As this book was very big, I decided to focus on an area that interested me the most and this was a chapter entitled War. This section interested my the most as I am passionate photographer, but I am also passionate about history, so them being combined together appealed to me a lot. This chapter shows Leibovitz' experience throughout the Vietnam War and then also other War's such as the Israeli Invasion of Southern Lebanon. Looking at the pictures presented in this section I find them so interesting as they are candid and come under the genre of photojournalism, so the pictures are true. This section is really interesting to me, but maybe not to others as not everyone enjoys history. There are other interesting sections such as one about John Lennon and Yoko Ono. This section is also really intriguing as it features an image of John and Yoko hours before his death. The book as a whole goes through her life and many different stories which I scanned over. She also explains how some of her images became famous.

New York , Capital of Photography by Max Kozloff: Book Review

I couldn't find a book that related to my topic in the college library so I chose to do a book review on something I like. I love travelling and would love to go to New York so I chose a book about it. The part of the book that I most enjoyed were the images at the end. I like looking at other peoples work and seeing all of the street photography as a moment in time is captured.
One of my favourite photographs from the whole book is on page 107 and titled In a New York Penthouse, 1931. I love how the photographer Edward Steichen captured two women classic for the time period in nice clothing and hairstyles. Also the photograph looks candid and I love how the skyline is seen in the background.
My favourite section of text is the part about Fallen Culture as I find the history interesting and I like how they compare New York in the 1920's to now, explaining how the times have changed and how it effects photographers.

Shadow Work in the Studio

Today we had another chance to work in the college studio, this time capturing shadow. I used three Pentax K 1000 cameras to photograph. It was fun to use a different light set up than last time, to create a stronger shadow. The following photographs are my favourites:

Studio Work!

Today we used the college photography studio to take photos of items we brought in. I decided to bring stones and a ribbon in with a wood board for the background. Our aim was to keep to our brief and capture something with pattern, shape, form or texture. I really enjoyed the experience of working in a professional studio and I'm excited to work in there next week and focus more on working with shadows. Today my main focus was shape and texture and my favourites are:

First Photography Class Outing

On Friday the 13th of September we had our first photography class outing, we went out and about around college. Luckily the weather stayed nice for us so we could get some good photos! We had our brief Pattern, Shape, Form and Texture in mind and I am going to show you six out of the many photos that I took which I liked the most. I edited the brightness and contrast of all my photographs to make them stand out and more eye pleasing.
